The riverfront along Indian River Drive is the oldest part of Sebastian. Settlers founded the town here in 1882 as St. Sebastian, and Mel Fisher's Treasure Museum opened in town in 1992. Pelican Island, the first National Wildlife Refuge (1903), is just offshore. (Sebastian, Florida)
Call (321) 220-9883Older lots, older equipment
In 2025 the city and Indian River County started extending county sewer into the riverfront redevelopment area so properties can move off septic and help the lagoon (Indian River Guardian). Many of these properties are decades old, and where there's a well it's often an irrigation well that has been in the ground a long time.
- Salt air corrodes pressure switches, fittings and tank bases faster than inland.
- Old jet pumps that run but no longer build pressure.
- Undersized tanks left over from past repairs, causing short cycling.
Sewer work and your well
If contractors are digging on your street for the sewer extension, mark where your well line runs. Damaged suction lines are a common cause of a pump that suddenly loses prime.
Common questions
Does salt air really affect well equipment?
Yes. Near the lagoon, switches, fittings and tank bases corrode faster, so they're worth checking every few years.
Will the sewer extension affect my well?
Not directly, but digging can damage buried well lines. Let the crews know where yours runs.
Do you cover Indian River Drive and US 1?
Yes, the whole riverfront and the streets behind it.
